-The Lone Wanderer

He was sitting on his bed, looking at the ground... Asking himself questions... Where did he come from? Where is he going? And what will happen today? Still sitting down in his room, shrouded in darkness, he lit up his cigarette and turned on the TV to watch the Discovery Channel. He was a misunderstood, but intelligent man. He knew more about the world than the world knew about him. He knew a lot of secrets and a lot of solutions to loads of world problems, but he didn't share his thoughts and ideas with anyone... After he finished his cigarette, he took a quick shower, got into his light-blue jeans, black shirt and a leather jacket. He grabbed the keys to his Red Nissan, and he walked out of the house. He was still very young. It was his last year of high school. He wasn't respected, he wasn't loved, but he didn't care. He had his old lap top, his guitar, his songs, texts, books, stories and himself. It was enough for him. He only had a few good friends in his life, and he cherished them well. He wasn't very concerned about what others thought of him. He was an average looking person... Short dark hair, a bit of a round-ish face, brown eyes, and ... well, not very tall. All in all, he stood above all of it, not giving two F*cks about it."Sorry I'm late, the traffic was awful." He said... He was always late. Ten minutes, twenty, sometimes for more than an hour. But for one person, he was ALWAYS there early. Always there, thirty minutes earlier... Waiting at the same spot, with a watchful eye, and a smile on his face. He spent his nights in a small caffe called "OLE". Every day, or every other... An espresso with a bit of milk foam on the top, an Aqua Viva, and a Chivas Regal shot.I remember a good story about him. In fact, it was that very day when he drove off... Not 2 days ago, he was sitting in the Nissan, on the parking lot in front of his house. He was just about to drive off to school, when suddenly someone entered his car, and she sat on the seat next to him. "It's been a long time..." she said "Do you remember me?". He didn't even flinch. He just gazed upon her beautiful face, searching for the answer in her eyes ... Who she really is? "How about some coffee... I know a perfect place..." He said with a grin. She smiled and buckled her seat belt as a sign of approval. He wasn't sure who she was, but he knew one thing... She was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen, and the best part was that she was so familiar, her name, and everything about her, was at the tip of his tongue. He wasn't driving to the usual places like "OLE" or the "Wonder Bar" He was driving to the oldest place he knew about. The place that held more good memories than his brain could handle... He was driving... towards "Friend Che" It's a place of peace and happiness for him, and he only goes to "Friend Che" on special occasions. This was one of them. Meeting someone, once forgotten, who seems to be fond of him. "The regular please..." he said "... and for the lady?" "A Chardonnay please!" She said with a smile on her face. He was getting nervous... How can't he remember her... What's binding him back, so he can't concentrate... "How long has it been... Seven years? Eight maybe? Have you figured out who I am ? Or do i need to reveal more?" She was amused by his lack of concentration. He was confused about everything she had to say. "4th of September, 2004" She gently whispered into his left ear. And all of a sudden he had a flashback... The fourth September of 2004, it was a few days after the school started, fourth grade. It was the birthday of his childhood crush. While everyone was bringing simple presents like clothes, toys, candy and school stuff, he came to her with a very small box. He came to her with a smile on his face. He opened the box and left it there on the table. She was stunnedShe pulled out the present from the box. It was a heart shaped, golden treasure chest. Inside, there was a small rose, resting on a red pillow. Surrounded by small angel figurines. And to top it all of, there was a small piece of paper that said "In your eyes and heart, i may not exist, but this rose, keep it in heart, it's a vessel of your joy in life... The kind you deserve... Happy Birthday girl." She was never that fond of him. He was the kind of kid that had more energy than a Nuclear Reactor. Always running around and yelling, screaming, singing etc. But he was a bit more ... extreme. Always bullied, always struck down. But even so, he always stood up above it all. You could have punched him as strong as you wanted, but he would always stand up. He protected everyone he cared about. He took punches hard, and punched back even harder. He protected her, saved her books, pens and her hair from chewing gum spitters. On that day, 4th of September of the year 2004, he Arrived there, with a broken leg. He broke it by falling of the stairs in his school. a long set of 53 stairs. He was carried inside the fun house, where the birthday was celebrated, by his best two school mates. Just to give her the present, and then he was dragged back out... Back to his dad who drove him home for a month of treatment. His flashback ended. Leaving him sitting there with a wide open jaw. His hands were shaking, and his sanity was low. "Oh! So you DO remember me?" Do you know what happened after you left... They all laughed at me. I was the laughing stock for the rest of the night... They were all yelling that childish "K-I-S-S-I-N-G" song... I started crying and left my own party." He looked at her with an empty glance. "I am sorry for what had happened.. I.." She grabbed his hand and she started laughing... "Let me finish... When i got home, i was broken. I was screaming about how you ruined my birthday, and how i never want to see you again. How you destroyed my life, and how i will transfer away from the school, just so i don't have to look at your putrid face again." This time .. He was completely broken. He felt like someone stabbed a 2ft wide and 7ft long spear into his heart. He was getting anxious, as to where was she going with the story."But you never left..." She squeezed his hand even tighter. "Years later i realized something... They weren't laughing at me... They were laughing at something more... We all knew how much you loved me, and how heroic you acted with everyone. How you cared for everyone. But no one but me knew that you were never acting. You always meant every word, every grin, every drop of blood you spit out to protect us... to protect me... So you see, they were never laughing at me, or your present... They were laughing at Us. They couldn't comprehend you. They hated you, just for thinking that you were acting like a hero." She reached for something deep in her backpack. It was the heart shaped box... With the same rose ... and the same angels guarding it. "Then i realized... I love you, but by the time i got the courage to tell you, you left the school, and ventured on your own path." She reached for the back of his head, sliding her hand onto his neck, whispering things to him... They were about to kiss ... And we know what happened later in his bedroom that night ...Yes he woke up. And as sad as this story is, he was happy... Even though it was just a dream, he knew where to go tomorrow instead of going to that school of his.
